Horner OCS-I/O – Modular Expansion and Remote I/O

The Horner OCS-I/O Series is a flexible, modular I/O system designed to expand the input and output capability of Horner OCS controllers. It provides a compact and cost-effective solution for applications requiring additional digital, analogue, temperature or high-speed I/O.

OCS-I/O can be installed alongside the controller as local expansion I/O, or distributed throughout a machine or plant as remote I/O using Horner's CsCAN network. Remote I/O can be positioned close to sensors, actuators and other field equipment, helping to reduce wiring and simplify the design of larger automation systems.

Modular and Expandable OCS I/O

The Horner OCS-I/O architecture is based around a communication base with plug-in I/O modules, allowing the system to be configured specifically for the requirements of each application.

A single OCS-I/O base can support multiple expansion modules, providing a scalable solution for both small machines and larger distributed control systems. Additional modules or remote bases can be added as the machine or process expands.

Wide Range of I/O Modules

The Horner OCS-I/O family includes a broad selection of modules for industrial automation and process control applications.

  • Digital Input Modules – for switches, proximity sensors, pushbuttons and other discrete devices.
  • Digital Output Modules – for contactors, relays, solenoids, valves and other industrial loads.
  • Analogue Input Modules – for common industrial signals including 0-10 V and 4-20 mA.
  • Analogue Output Modules – for controlling variable speed drives, valves, actuators and other analogue devices.
  • Universal Analogue Modules – supporting multiple analogue and temperature signal types.
  • RTD and Thermocouple Modules – for direct industrial temperature measurement.
  • Thermistor Inputs – for temperature monitoring applications.
  • High-Speed I/O – for counting, frequency measurement, pulse measurement and other high-speed machine functions.

High-Resolution Analogue I/O

Selected Horner OCS-I/O analogue modules provide high-resolution 16-bit analogue measurement, making them suitable for demanding industrial and process-control applications.

Depending on the selected module, supported signals can include 0-10 V, 0-20 mA, 4-20 mA, PT100 and PT1000 RTDs, together with a range of thermocouple types.

Local or Distributed Remote I/O

One of the major advantages of Horner OCS-I/O is its ability to be used for both local expansion and distributed remote I/O.

For compact machines, OCS-I/O modules can be installed alongside the controller to provide additional input and output capacity. For larger machines and plant automation systems, CsCAN-connected I/O bases can be installed closer to the equipment being monitored and controlled.

Locating I/O close to field devices can significantly reduce the amount of individual sensor and actuator wiring returning to the main control panel. This can reduce installation costs, simplify commissioning and make future system expansion easier.

CsCAN Remote I/O Communications

Horner OCS-I/O can communicate using the Horner CsCAN industrial network, enabling I/O to be distributed throughout a machine, production line or process plant.

Multiple remote I/O bases can be connected to the CsCAN network, allowing the control system to be expanded without requiring large quantities of point-to-point field wiring.

Simple Configuration with Horner Cscape

Horner OCS-I/O is integrated with Horner Cscape programming software, providing a common engineering environment for programming the controller and configuring connected I/O.

Cscape allows the required I/O modules and individual channel parameters to be configured as part of the overall OCS application, helping simplify system design, commissioning and maintenance.
