The Horner OCS-I/O Series is a flexible, modular I/O system designed to expand the input and output capability of Horner OCS controllers. It provides a compact and cost-effective solution for applications requiring additional digital, analogue, temperature or high-speed I/O.
OCS-I/O can be installed alongside the controller as local expansion I/O, or distributed throughout a machine or plant as remote I/O using Horner's CsCAN network. Remote I/O can be positioned close to sensors, actuators and other field equipment, helping to reduce wiring and simplify the design of larger automation systems.
The Horner OCS-I/O architecture is based around a communication base with plug-in I/O modules, allowing the system to be configured specifically for the requirements of each application.
A single OCS-I/O base can support multiple expansion modules, providing a scalable solution for both small machines and larger distributed control systems. Additional modules or remote bases can be added as the machine or process expands.
The Horner OCS-I/O family includes a broad selection of modules for industrial automation and process control applications.
Selected Horner OCS-I/O analogue modules provide high-resolution 16-bit analogue measurement, making them suitable for demanding industrial and process-control applications.
Depending on the selected module, supported signals can include 0-10 V, 0-20 mA, 4-20 mA, PT100 and PT1000 RTDs, together with a range of thermocouple types.
One of the major advantages of Horner OCS-I/O is its ability to be used for both local expansion and distributed remote I/O.
For compact machines, OCS-I/O modules can be installed alongside the controller to provide additional input and output capacity. For larger machines and plant automation systems, CsCAN-connected I/O bases can be installed closer to the equipment being monitored and controlled.
Locating I/O close to field devices can significantly reduce the amount of individual sensor and actuator wiring returning to the main control panel. This can reduce installation costs, simplify commissioning and make future system expansion easier.
Horner OCS-I/O can communicate using the Horner CsCAN industrial network, enabling I/O to be distributed throughout a machine, production line or process plant.
Multiple remote I/O bases can be connected to the CsCAN network, allowing the control system to be expanded without requiring large quantities of point-to-point field wiring.
Horner OCS-I/O is integrated with Horner Cscape programming software, providing a common engineering environment for programming the controller and configuring connected I/O.
Cscape allows the required I/O modules and individual channel parameters to be configured as part of the overall OCS application, helping simplify system design, commissioning and maintenance.
The Horner OCS-I/O Series is suitable for a wide range of industrial automation and process-control applications, including:
Whether additional I/O is required inside a control panel or distributed throughout a large machine or industrial process, Horner OCS-I/O provides a scalable and flexible I/O platform. Its modular architecture, wide range of I/O types, CsCAN networking and integration with Cscape make it an ideal expansion solution for Horner OCS control systems.
By combining control, communications and distributed I/O within the Horner OCS platform, OCS-I/O can help reduce field wiring, simplify system design and provide an automation solution that can be easily expanded as future requirements change.
